The First-Tier Tribunal -Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) is independent of central and local government. We cover the whole of England.
Special educational need appeals
We decide and hear parents' appeals against LA decisions on children's special educational needs.
Our booklet Special educational needs: how to appeal provides full information on when parents can appeal to us and how to go about it. It explains clearly the decisions against which you can appeal, and about the whole appeal process.

Disability Discrimination in schools
We also decide and hear parents' claims about disability discrimination in schools. SEND handles discrimination claims about:
- admissions to independent and non-maintained schools;
- permanent exclusions from independent and non-maintained schools and fixed-term (temporary) exclusions in all schools and;
- education and services linked to education in all schools.
Our booklet Disability Discrimination in Schools: How to Make a Claim explains your rights as a parent. Included in the booklet is the Notice of a disability discrimination claim form which you can download separately.
